The Ultimate Cheat Sheet To A Healthy Gut

Want to solve the mysteries of your never-ending gut health problems?

Even better, do you want to control the pace at which you achieve a healthy gut?

I can help you.

In this Ultimate Healthy Gut Cheat Sheet I highlight some important terms that you need for your healthy gut toolbox.  Afterwards, I provide you with my 7C Regimen for helping clients to achieve a healthy gut.  I am certain that if you apply this regimen to your current practice, you will achieve desired results.

Believe it or not, it is possible to heal your gut. Even if you are facing Leaky Gut Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome Symptoms (IBS) or Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), you can heal. Today, there are some amazing doctors and alternative health practitioners working together to help individuals meet their gut health goals. With the right healthcare team and regimen, the possibilities of a healthy gut are endless. How am I so certain? I am a product as well as a practitioner of traditional and modern minds working together.

Now, let’s get started!

Gut Flora And The Microbiome

First you have to understand gut flora. I can hear you now… What the heck is that? Well, it get’s better. Gut flora is best defined as your gut microbiome. What?!?! Ha ha ha… Settle down. Really, it’s a simple concept yielding very important information for your healthy gut success. Please allow me to explain.

The gut microbiome is defined as the organism “bug” habitat you carry on and inside your body. Dr. Robynne Chutkan (1), in her book, The Microbiome Solution, defines it as, “… all of the bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and helminths (worms, for those of us who have them), as well as all of their genes.” These organisms translate into bacteria. Therefore, whenever you hear someone speak of gut flora, the gut microbiome, human microbiome or gut biome, he or she is referring to the bacteria on your body and inside your gut. You should also note that an organism is referred to as either a microbe or bacteria.

But there are two more important things Dr. Chutkan communicates in her book that I think every single person on this planet seeking to secure a healthy gut, needs to remember:

1.  There are more than one billion bacteria in just one drop of fluid in your colon alone. (1)

2.  Your digestive tract starts at the mouth and it ends at the anus. The further an item (food, parasite or otherwise) travels down the digestive tract, the more dense is the bacteria population.(1) Therefore, the stomach and small intestine have much, much less bacteria than the colon.

This important information is the foundation of your healthy gut journey.

Immune System Definition Inside The Colon

Now it is time to talk more about the colon. This organ is an extremely significant part of the cheat sheet equation for securing a healthy gut. Like gut flora and the microbiome, used interchangeably, but carrying the same definition, our colon has the same privilege. The colon is also referred to as the large intestine. Both names are used to describe one organ.

If you want to know how to boost your immune system quickly you are in the right place. A very large percentage of the immune system is housed right inside of your colon. With so much immunity located right inside of a colon, the health of this organ is imperative to securing a healthy gut.

The large intestine (colon) serves as a home for good bacteria and bad bacteria. The good and bad fight against one another which helps to maintain immune balance. These bacteria need each other to survive. Meanwhile, a colon protects the sanctity of this fight by ensuring that none of the players leave the party.

But how does the colon know if a microbe is trying to escape?

In his book, The Second BrainDr. Michael Gershon (2) explains that the colon’s intestinal lining (large intestine lining) has immune system cells protecting the wall of the colon. These cells are responsible for learning the bacteria’s genetic makeup (i.e. toxins). This knowledge helps the immune system cells to protect the definition of our normal gut flora. Their identity-based memory bank inhibits these harmful microbes and/or toxins from migrating beyond the colon to create distress in other parts of the body. That being said, the other digestive organs as well as the entire human body truly depend upon a high performance colon for a reliable immune response. The colon serves as the foundation of our digestive immune system.

But what happens when the colon is not functioning properly? Is the immune system compromised with bowel obstruction, colon polyps, colon infection or any other type of colon problems? What happens if the colon is busy managing a backlog of toxic fecal material preventing a timely bowel movement? I will provide an answer to these questions momentarily.

ONE Common Denominator With Symptoms Of Common Gut Diseases

First, let’s take a look at the chart below which outlines symptoms of three trending gut diseases. The chart highlights one organ in particular having obvious commonality with each of the gut diseases. Can you guess what organ that is?

(3) (4) (5)

Symptoms related to each of these gut diseases have two main common denominators being

1.  The Colon and

2.  A Weak Immune System.

Now let’s review…

Where is the greatest concentration of microbes in your body?   The Colon.

Where is a large percentage of your immune system located?  The Colon.

If you are having intestinal issues, where is that located?  The Small Intestine or Large Intestine.

What is another name for the large intestine?  The Colon.

Many of these symptoms are originating inside of The Colon. As a side note, I am a product of overly prescribed antibiotic abuse. Throughout my childhood and young adult years, I had allergies, asthma, PMS imbalances, juvenile arthritis, weeping eczema, chronic yeast infections and food intolerances. Many of these symptoms are listed above in the leaky gut syndrome column. However, once I employed the 7C Regimen as my dependable immune boosters, all of those “distant colon-gut conditions” disappeared. How was it possible? As I mentioned earlier, a solid percentage of the immune system is located inside our colon. Once I directly addressed the colon… that means I had to touch my bum… I was able to turn my compromised immune system into a favorable aid for healthy gut function.  Although each of those diseases seemed unrelated to colon function, I was able to heal them with an agreeable modification of my colon’s microbiome. It was exciting!  Take some time to learn how your colon is impacting gut performance. Click here for your healthy gut kickstart mini-course

Today, I am using my 7C Regimen as a starting point for teaching you how to build your immune system. Just give me 2 more minutes to present one last piece of information in support of your healthy gut journey.

Significant Healthy Gut Advances Through The Forgotten Gut Organ

The colon (also known as the large intestine) works in conjunction with it’s fellow colleagues. Your small intestine, stomach, esophagus and mouth depend upon the colon to have flow. This is a concept I call gut flow. If the colon is stuck with a backlog of toxic waste material (dysbiosis), a digestive system will experience hardship. For example, the small intestine will begin to house bacteria that it can’t pass on to the colon. Thereafter, a stomach, in recognition that it’s neighboring colleague is having troubles, will delay its content emptying. Consequently, the esophagus is subject to acid reflux and as a result, the poor mouth is left to manage vomit. This is just one possible example. A number of digestive concerns unfold when a colon cannot produce a timely flow of waste material. Learn more about this with the healthy gut kickstart mini-course

Historically, society has deemed public colon communication as inappropriate. As a result, TODAY, the health of a colon is broken. People are ignorant to its location, function and care. If a person is having colon problems, they are shamed for discussing it inside the home and publicly. However, many of the people suffering with Leaky Gut Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), Diabetes, Hepatitis, Lupus and so many more diseases are having colon problems. More than 70 million people suffer with intestinal dysfunction. (6)  This means that the consistency of waste removal has malfunctioned, the immune system is severely compromised, and the microbes previously participating in that friendly fight are now free to roam, along with any new perpetrators. These microbes are creating rare and unfamiliar diseases inside of the body.

In trying to heal digestive disorders, and other seemingly unrelated diseases, an ancient approach has been forgotten. Just as well, the organ that houses a noticeable percentage of the microbiome has been forgotten, or never acknowledged. The colon. We are taking pills and adhering to dietary changes to fix gut diseases. However, we forgot about the colon’s role. It is challenging for it to discard the derivatives of waste from these pill and dietary protocols if it is in a state of dysbiosis. Many of the oral protocols are sound but the colon can’t keep up with the discharge demand. This is a minuscule oversight creating an enormous immune problem. In our society, we need an update to our thinking regarding the colon and how to approach its direct care… with water.

In The Microbiome SolutionDr. Chutkan(1) describes dysbiosis as, “…an alteration of the microbial community that diminishes a person’s essential population of good bacteria and allows pathogenic (bad) bacteria that are normally present in low amounts to flourish – in essence, it is a microbial imbalance in or on your body.”

Now to answer the questions presented earlier. When our normal colon flora is changed via an excess of feces (constipation), new market medications, antibiotics, vacations, parasites, thoughts or a host of other reasons, dysbiosis occurs. Now the immune system, housed inside the colon, has to adjust to the new offense. It “should” union with the nervous system to secrete water for “washing” the offenders away (diarrhea) but such is not always the case. Or, if it is the case, a prolonged diarrhea experience could turn an “already dehydrated colon” into a parched “ready for extinction” prune. If diarrhea is not a cure, waste retention continues, the immune system slowly malfunctions and disease prevails.

We are using the state of our health, and a stubborn mindset, to gamble with an opportunity for a healthy gut lifesyle.

The 7C Regimen For Effecting Change Toward A Healthy Gut

Einstein defined insanity as continuing to do the same thing over and over again and expecting different result.

I used to consume a variation of 13, or more, medications per day, depending on my diagnosis. When my health was poor, my colon was broken.  The doctor confirmed, at age 15, that I would always have sickness and I would NEVER have children. Pertaining to my life, I have a hard time accepting negatives as hard truth. Upon my doctor’s declaration, I made a decision to trust my inner wisdom for guidance — to try something different. I willed myself to rely upon my own effort — for trying something different. I promised myself to find answers. It took me more than 25 years but I stand today with the health I deserve.

I was able to increase my immune system and cultivate a healthy gut. Even better, I was able to experience the blessing of becoming a mother. It was all about favorable microbiome modification inside my colon. I accomplished these tasks, and have helped my clients do the same, through something I now call the 7C Regimen.

Through research and application, I understood that my doctor had forgotten about the one gut organ which could help me positively influence my diseased state, if I employed consistent modification to my microbiome. The colon… the large intestine houses a large percentage of our microbiome. It is the one place where a human can choose to make a difference. The colon exit (anus) enables us to have direct access to the most concentrated area of the immune system, where significantly positive immunological advances can unfold relatively fast — with consistency — for a time period.  To learn more about supporting your colon health, click here to take the healthy Gut Kickstarter mini-course.

A distressed colon is missing hydration. Simple H20. Delayed waste material taking residence in the colon cavity is dehydrated. Dried stool is intensely difficult to expel. Success typically accompanies failure in the form of hemorrhoids, fissures, pelvic floor dysfunction or the like. Lack of success lends to dysbiosis and a weak immune system

This was my story. Laxatives forced expulsion but increased dehydration. Somehow I was always left with an offensive feeling of reckless abandonment after consuming laxatives. Like with my daily antibiotic use, it felt like my entire digestive system was insulted in efforts to evidence a result. Before I could permanently damage my gut reflexes, muscle responsiveness and sphincter function, my research led me to an enema bag, that I now call exit cleansing. I started directly nurturing the health of my colon through an exit cleansing process. I felt much better. My eczema slowly started to clear. I stopped using my steroid creams. However, I continued to search for a long-term solution. I wanted my colon to perform independently. That answer came in the form of colon hydrotherapy. I worked with a professional to hydrate delayed waste, activate the muscle movement inside my colon and eliminate waste without having to attack my entire digestive system for a result.

A few years later, I became a credentialed Guided Colonic Therapist and used my extensive journey to create a working 7C Regimen for my clients to follow. You, too, can employ this plan:

Step #1. Communicate Honestly

In this step, having an honest conversation with yourself is essential. Admit you are having challenges expelling timely waste material. Also concede to the fact that helper items, consumed regularly, are potentially creating a lifelong dependency. This reliance could eventually train an atonic (zero muscle tone) colon in the future. It’s better to exchange the dependency for independent colon function.

Step #2. Cleanse Directly

This step calls for direct hydration of the colon via your anal exit. You can begin with an enema bag, to which I call exit cleansing. If you are comfortable, start with colonic therapy. Both options empower you to nurture an immediate change of dysbiosis by softening retarded excrement. Thereafter, a colon naturally responds to waste removal.

Can you remove 100% of the dysbiosis at one time? No. Furthermore, you shouldn’t want to create that type of colon shock. It took time for the dysbiosis to accumulate inside your body. Allow your colon time to dismantle the dysbiosis. Plan to have a series of exit cleanse or colonic sessions.

Can you make a difference in the level of dysbiosis with a few exit cleanse or colonic sessions? Yes.

Step #3. Consume Gently

Alongside your exit cleanse or colonic sessions, consume a fermented food-based probiotic. My favorite is Dr. Ohirra’s because it moves through a lengthy fermentation process prior to distribution. This process ensures the good bacteria are ready to work on your healthy gut. Understand the importantance of gently consuming this probiotic in proper dosages. Follow package directions. You may desire more than two capsules but the directions are there to protect you. Too much probiotic consumption at one setting can create an imbalance thus causing an undesired response. (7)

Step #4. Combine Effectively

The next proactive step calls for you to feed the probiotic with good food. Too often people take probiotics in support of digestive health but continue eating unhealthy foods. You must feed your bacteria friends with fresh and effective food combinations. My microbiome works best with basic colorful meals containing 3 – 4 ingredients. My dinner salads typically max out at 7 ingredients. Below, Natural Pharmacist, Ross Pelton has an aesthetically appealing “salad buzz” option for the microbiome.

Step #5. Construct Devotedly

Stretching and/or exercise is key for a healthy gut. I have found that clients who construct an exercise plan to fit their schedules, remain devoted to a routine practice, albeit, 3, 5 or 7 days per week. Exercise contributes to healthy (colon) gut function. Daily exercise provides fresh oxygen to the brain, improves blood circulation, increases organ performance and strengthens abdominal muscles. Stretching, yoga, walking and cardiovascular exercises, to name a few, encourage propulsion of waste.

Step #6. Contribute Thoughtfully

In my practice, clients move through guided colonic therapy sessions. We are cleansing through the mind-gut connection. This connection takes into account that the brain and gut were derived from the same clump of tissue during embryogenesis. The split caused half to migrate into our central nervous system and the other half to become our enteric nervous system (digestive system). The two twin systems are connected in thought and action. To feed the mind is to feed the performance of your gut. To ensure success, clients are encouraged to mindfully choose a daily positive thought-provoking medium throughout their mind-gut journey. This step contributes to healthy gut performance.

Step #7. Comply Agreeably

Lastly, remain in consistent compliance with the pace at which your colon is able to heal. The colon is a very emotional organ. Due to it’s genetic relationship with the central and enteric nervous systems, it responds to thought. If you become frustrated with its pace of healing, the colon can “hear” your thoughts and will stop responding, accordingly. However, if your thoughts project concern and patience with your colon’s pace of healing, you will meet desired results quickly.

Colon Hydrotherapy As An Integrative Adjunct Therapy

Colonic Irrigation, Colon Hydrotherapy and Colonics are used interchangeably to describe the water irrigation process of a colon or large intestine. The process slowly introduces warm, filtered water into a colon for hydrating stagnant waste material, activating colon muscle movement and eliminating delayed excrement from the cavity. This procedure is administered via a single-use, disposable, FDA approved speculum that is easily inserted into the rectum. The speculum has a waste hose and water inlet hose attachment bridging its connection to an FDA approved, closed-system colonic therapy device. The device is motor free. The interfacing waste hose delivers excrement directly to a sewage line.  A colon therapist does not handle waste.  The process is very sanitary and odorless.

There is a misconception that a colonic flushes everything out of the colon at one time. People like to compare its effect to antibiotics. But unlike antibiotics, there is no scientific evidence that a colonic destroys all of the good bacteria. However, there are plenty of clients testifying about its benefits. Generally speaking, a credentialed colonic therapist is trained to utilize a colonic device in conjunction with the condition of a colon. Introduced water is equivalent to a slow running faucet at .25 lbs. per square inch. A combination of the colon therapist, pressure gauges and a client (not required) work together to align with correct water input. As the health of a colon increases, at subsequent sessions, a colon will allow for additional water. Colonic sessions are a slow and gentle process toward healthy gut balance. This information can serve as your baseline for colonic session expectations. Since every colonic therapist has a slightly different practice, I can only, assuredly, speak for myself (and therapist who complete my training). Personally, I have a very specific process I follow to ensure client relaxation, safety, colon success and “next level potential” through the mind-gut connection.

Going forward, please remember you have options for contributing to a healthy gut. If you want to self-administer the direct cleanse process, choose exit cleansing. If you want to work with a professional, choose colonic cleansing.
